Dag tot dag programma
Dag 1: Aankomst in Maputo
Welcome to Mother Africa. Arrival on Maputo Int. Airport where the driver will meet you and transfer to your hotel where you can relax after a long journey.
Together we will have dinner that evening in a nice local restaurant. Accommodation: Comfortable 3 star guesthouse including breakfast.
Dag 2: Maputo stadswandeling en Maputo
A relaxed start to the day. After breakfast, we set off to explore Mafalala. This colorful neighborhood is the oldest township in Maputo and was created in the colonial era as a township for Mozambican workers who were not allowed to live in the center of the city. It was the historical home to many of Mozambique's important cultural and political figures, the resistance movement that fought for independence.
Ook bezoeken we de vismarkt van Maputo, een must –see in deze stad aan de Indische Oceaan. Kies uw eigen vis uit en de lokale mama’s maken het ter plekke voor ons klaar. Dit is een unieke lokale belevenis met heerlijk eten (inbegrepen in de prijs).
Dag 3: Maputo - Xai Xai
After breakfast we’ll we start our adventure northwards! We depart in our comfortable bus to the N1, the only road connecting southern Mozambique with the north. After about 4.5 hours, we reach Humbi Farm, an exciting new project where your stay directly funds the two major social projects that are run here. Delicious local organic food will await. A unique accommodation! Here we will stay 2 nights. Lunch and dinner included.
Dag 4: Humbi Farm en de Kanimambo stichting
Een ontspannen dag. Vanochtend bezoeken we de KaniMambo stichting, die gelieerd is aan deze accommodatie en krijgen we een rondleiding in dit bijzondere educatieve centrum.
A fun cooking workshop in the afternoon where we learn more about the local Mozambican cuisine is part of our stay! In the evening we’ll have dinner together at Humbi Farm (included in trip).
Day 5: Xai Xai to Tofo Beach
Time to say goodbye to this special place. After breakfast, we continue our journey northwards towards Tofo Beach. In the city of Inhambane, our guide will be waiting for us for an interesting city walk where you will learn more about the history of Portuguese colonialism. We’ll enjoy a delicious local lunch before we continue our journey to Tofo Beach (about 45 minutes). Arrival at our beach hotel in the afternoon. You will stay here for 2 nights. Dinners are not included here as Tofo has many good restaurants, all within walking distance of your accommodation.
Day 6: Tofo Beach
Het kleine dorpje Tofo ligt direct aan zee. Met een groot, breed en lang wit zandstrand is Tofo een favoriete bestemming voor duikers vanwege de vele riffen die niet ver uit de kust liggen.
De oceaan voor Tofo wordt bevolkt door dolfijnen, walvissen (de grote walvis migratie vindt plaats tussen juni/juli en oktober), groepen reuzenmanta's op slechts een paar meter van de kust en vooral walvishaaien die soms in grote aantallen zichtbaar zijn tussen december en maart.
At the end of the afternoon we'll be picked up for a cultural evening in one of the local communities outside Tofo Beach. This lovely local project is entirely run by the local community. Dinner included.
Day 7: Tofo Beach to Vilanculos
After breakfast departure for Vilanculos (approx. 5 hours). Via Inhambane - where we make a short stop at the local market with the most beautiful and colorful handmade baskets - we continue our journey further north, to Vilanculos. If you are adventurous enough you can take the local ferry across the bay, where the bus will pick us up on the other side, in Maxixe. From here it's another 3 hours to Vilanclos, where we will arrive in the afternoon in the beautiful Bahia Mar Boutique Hotel - directly facing the idyllic Bazaruto Archipelago. In the evening we'll eat together in a lovely local restaurant with great food!
Dag 8: Vilanculos & de Rode Duinen
Vilanculos, homebase of Unique Mozambique with a relaxed vibe, is best known as the gateway to the idyllic Bazaruto Archipelago. With it's authentic feeling - it's a lovely place to relax, enjoy the stunning views and experience local Mozambican life. Pamper yourself today with one of the massages in the wonderful spa of the Bahia Mar Hotel, where all natural and local oils are used.
In the late afternoon we'll be picked up for a fun tour to watch the sunset in the red dunes of Vilanculos. Dinner at the hotel or, if you prefer, at one of the local restaurants (not included).
Dag 9 & 10: De paradijselijke Bazaruto Archipel
Get ready for two truly unforgettable days in the paradise of the paradijselijke Bazaruto Archipel. After breakfast we’ll depart to the small harbour of Vilanculos, from where we will take a local dhow boat to Magaruque Island. Welcome to paradise. Here you’ll get a taste of the fantastic snorkelling in this beautiful underwater world. Our fresh fish lunch will be traditionally prepared on the boat.
In the afternoon we set sail to our base camp back on the mainland. We will camp for one night under the stars in simple but comfortable safari tents. Our dinner will be cooked for us under the endless African sky.
Dag 10: Bazaruto Eiland en de Two Mile Reef
After breakfast, we set sail by traditional dhow to Bazaruto Island, the largest island in the archipelago. Towering sand dunes and crystal-clear turquoise waters create a breathtaking backdrop in this protected paradise of the Indian Ocean.
Today’s highlight is snorkeling at Two Mile Reef, where vibrant coral gardens are home to tropical fish, turtles, manta rays — and with a bit of luck, the rare dugong.
We genieten van een heerlijke lunch met verse vis, kreeft en vegetarische opties, en maken een korte stop op het paradijselijke Benguerra voordat we terugvaren naar het hotel. Afhankelijk van de wind kan de excursie per speedboot plaatsvinden.
Dag 11: Vilanculos
A day of relaxation before we begin our long final stage of our journey to the remote Gorongosa National Park. Relax by the pool or book another activity, for example horseback riding with Mozambique Horse Safari or a calming meditation session with Gerry.

Day 12: Into the Wild, Vilanculos - Gorongosa National Park
An early start for a long day of traveling further northwards to discover the deserted and dry interior of Mozambique, as well as its poor roads. After crossing the impressive Save River, we continue to Inchope, not too far from the border with Zimbabwe. The 42 km unpaved access road to Gorongosa National Park will immediately make you realize you have truly arrived in one of the last wilderness areas in Africa.

Day 13 & 14: Africa's lost Eden - Gorongosa National Park
Over the next few days, we end our Mozambican journey with a true highlight: Gorongosa National Park, described by National Geographic as “Africa’s Lost Eden.”
Na onze lange reisdag gisteren doen we het vandaag rustig aan en bezoeken na het ontbijt in de loop van de ochtend de lokale gemeenschap, om een idee te krijgen van de fantastische projecten van het Gorongosa Nationaal Park. We bezoeken onder andere het ziekenhuis en een school. 's Middags staat er een prachtige zonsondergang safari op het programma. Mocht u toch vroeg uit de veren willen dan is de vroege ochtendsafari (05.00 uur) op aanvraag bij te boeken.
In the afternoon, we head out on our first 3.5-hour sunset safari in an open safari vehicle with expert guides, ending the day with a memorable campfire dinner (included).
Dag 14: Op Safari
Today we’ll embark on another two unforgettable 3-3.5-hour safaris in open off-road vehicles. One in the early morning and one in the afternoon, when the heat has passed and the conditions are optimal. With a little luck, we will spot lots of wild animals. Dinner at the campfire (included).
Het Gorongosa Nationaal Park ligt in het hart van centraal Mozambique. Het beslaat ongeveer 3.770 km² en bestaat uit typische bushland, rivierdalgebieden,,
plateaus en bergen bedekt met tropisch regenwoud. Gorongosa herbergt een indrukwekkende verscheidenheid aan dieren en planten, waarvan sommige endemisch zijn en nergens anders ter wereld voorkomen.
Twintig jaar natuurherstel hebben al het oorspronkelijke wild teruggebracht. Nu kunt u het gebied in zijn oorspronkelijke pracht ervaren – een uniek bewijs van de kracht van de natuur.
Day 15: Gorongosa National Park - Beira
De laatste vroege ochtend safari, waarbij we nog mooie dieren hopen te zien en afscheid van het zeer bijzondere Gorongosa Nationaal Park.
After breakfast, we travel to the coastal city of Beira for our final night by the Indian Ocean. Once Mozambique’s most important port, connecting Zimbabwe to the sea, Beira still carries echoes of its grand past.
Onderweg naar ons hotel voor de laatste nacht maken we nog een interessante stadstour, waarin we het iconische Grande Hotel Beira — zien. Ooit het grootste hotel van Afrika, met imposante art-deco-elementen en een zwembad van olympische afmetingen, is het nu een vervallen ruïne en toevluchtsoord voor de minder bedeelden in deze wereld. Met een laatste groet aan de warme Indische Oceaan en dit bijzondere land, sluiten we met gezamenlijk avondeten in deze aangenaam warme stad onze vakantie in Mozambique af.
Dag 16: Beira - Johannesburg
Goodbyes and end of our magical journey.
Transfer naar de internationale luchthaven van Beira voor de vlucht naar Johannesburg.
